I’ve been working with council officers to find better ways of collecting and disposing of the seaweed on Altona Beach since being elected to council. After a number of trials a company has developed a machine that helps remove the sand from the seaweed when its collected so that it can be used to make liquid fertiliser. Thus, we will be recycling 100% of our seaweed in the near future. The machine will cost the council just under $88,000 (with the state government contributing 50% of the cost) and this new process will save the...

Mobil Shut Down for Maintenance Mobil’s Altona Refinery will be temporarily shut down from October to November 2011 to allow the plant to undergo maintenance including inspections and some equipment upgrades. The maintenance work is likely to produce increased flaring, noise, odours and steam. Let’s hope the EPA will monitor the process carefully to ensure the local environment and community aren’t adversely affected. The council has also been advised that residents are likely to notice an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic...

New Toilet at Frazer Reserve Shortly after being elected in 2008 I was approached by a number of residents who complained the council had removed the public toilet on Frazer Reserve (the corner of Millers Road and The Esplanade) in 2007.
