trains cut

Metro has announced a reduction in train services for Altona, Seaholme and Westona stations.  To see the new timetable, click here

These changes mean:

  • Commuters from Westona, Altona and Seaholme Stations will lose direct access to and from the city loop at all times (the previous Labor government removed city loop access a peak times two years ago).  Commuters will have to change trains at Newport, and again at North Melbourne to access the City Loop.
  • There will be no express trains from the Altona loop to the city;
  • Services times will be reduced from 20 minutes to 22 minutes from Westona, Altona and Seaholme, but then commuters will have to wait around 10 minutes to catch another train at Newport, and then change trains again at North Melbourne to go to the City Loop.
  • Commuters from Westona, Altona and Seaholme will not have direct access to Werribee and Hoppers Crossing – they will have to change trains at Laverton.

There has been a significant community campaign to oppose these changes, and as the Councillor for Altona and Seaholme and Deputy Mayor of Hobsons Bay, I have done the following:

  • Successfully moved a number of motions at formal council meetings resulting in the City of Hobsons Bay officially opposing the reduced train services and writing to the Premier, Minister for Public Transport, Metro and the Department of Transport.
  • Wrote to the Premier, Leader of the Opposition, Minister for Public Transport, Shadow Minister for Public Transport and all other members of the Legislative Assembly opposing the changes and highlighting the impact of the changes on local residents, businesses and tourism.
  • Promoted the campaign to oppose the reduced services via my website, Community Updates and social media (facebook and twitter).

I urge anyone opposed to the proposed changes to write to the following politicians respectfully explaining how the reduced services will affect you:
