Diana and John Hogg

About Councillor John Hogg…

John was elected to the Hobsons Bay City Council in 2008.  He and I are close friends and we stood for council on the same ticket – supported by the Hobsons Bay Residents Association as genuine Independent candidates.  Neither of us are beholden to represent a political party and our main focus is representing our community.  We work extremely well together and rely on each other for support in the chamber.

About John:

  • Has lived in Seabrook Ward (Altona Meadows & Laverton) for the last 56 years;
  • Is married with 5 children;
  • Is the Assistant State Secretary of the Communications Electrical Plumbers Union;
  • Is a member of the Hobsons Bay Residents Association Inc.;
  • Is a founding Director of the Laverton Altona Meadows Community Bank;
  • Is the former Secretary of the Laverton & Altona Meadows Residents’ Association; and
  • Is a member of the Australian Labor Party.

John is very passionate about helping our local community.  As a local resident and member of the Hobsons Bay Residents Association Inc., he helped -

  • Oppose obscene rate increases in Hobsons Bay (Council has increased rates by 28% in the last four years);
  • Represent residents at VCAT to fight various inappropriate developments;
  • Represent residents at Council Special Planning Committee meetings;
  • Save parkland from sale;
  • Retain parking permits for residents;
  • Install a pedestrian crossing on Central Ave (near the Shopping Centre);
  • Lobby council for improved community services – especially for our elderly and disabled residents; and
  • Lobby for improvements to local roads and footpaths.

All of these experiences, along with his long standing senior union roles and kind personality make John a very effective Councillor for Seabrook Ward.

Since being elected John has:

  • ensured the works to improve Aviation Road were completed;
  • led a campaign to retain Aircraft Station and upgrade its car park;
  • led a campaign to improve Point Cook Road and Central Avenue;
  • has ensured additional footpaths are being constructed locally every year;
  • has ensured the council developed a Master Plan for Comben Reserve which was also allocated $550,000 for implementation so far;
  • lobbied and supported the huge redevelopment of the Laverton Hub; and
  • worked with other councillors to make city wide improvements.
